Product traceability system using RFID technology in automotive industry

Project Description

This document presents the feasibility study of the traceability system developed for a multi-national automotive manufacturer to substitute the technology they are currently using in their UK plant to track metal components along their machining process. The current system, which is based on 2D Matrix codes and cameras, is unable to provide more than 30% visibility of the process, and lacks robustness and reliability due to some critical aspects such as poor light levels in the factory and product surface contamination, which prevents optical recognition by the camera system.
