HSSMI, a Stratford-based specialist in digital techniques for application within manufacturing, has won regional recognition at this year’s prestigious EEF Future Manufacturing Awards.

HSSMI, which employs 54 staff won the Health and Safety Award. The award goes to the organisation that has achieved the most impressive or innovative improvements within health and safety.

HSSMI was up against stiff competition from a range of innovative businesses – small and large – from across the region. It was selected by a panel of judges drawn from business leaders, industry experts and academics after impressing them with the initiative they have shown in getting several organisations, both in public and private sector, to collaborate in pioneering work.

With the regional title now secured, HSSMI will now go on to compete for the national title at an awards gala dinner in London in January next year.

Dr Leslie Lee, Executive Director at HSSMI, says: “This award is testament to the cross functional hard working and dedicated team led by HSSMI, and we are delighted to have won. It puts us on the map as a modern and innovative company and goes some way to demonstrate the valuable contribution that can be made by SMEs to improving working environments on a national scale. We can’t wait to share this news with all our staff, partners, customers and suppliers.

“It’s fantastic to get this far and now we’re all looking forward to the national finals in January to see how we measure up against the rest of the UK.”

Terry Scuoler CBE, CEO of EEF says: “Boosting health and safety in the workplace leads to significant improvements in employee wellbeing and operational efficiency – and manufacturers are leading the way. HSSMI justly deserves this award for the fantastic work that they have done to improve the health and safety culture. We wish them the best of luck for the national finals.”
